Y nos sorprendimos porque nosotros ya sabemos que debajo de cada bata, pijama o título universitario en el área de la salud, siempre hay un ser humano.
Un ser, que como cualquier otra persona tiene la capacidad de sufrir y sentir.
¿Quién no ha visto nunca llorar a un compañero en una guardia?
¿Quién no terminó alguna vez derrumbado después de una historia con triste desenlace?
¿Quién no se imaginó por un segundo que pasaría si fuéramos los del otro lado?
Flaco favor le hizo a una historia con ansias de igualdad el tópico de «los hombres no lloran», pero peor favor nos hizo a nosotros que algunos colocaran nuestra profesión en un pedestal por encima del resto, porque nada se aleja más de la realidad que esta errónea visión.
Porque la medicina se practica desde la humildad, con los pies en el suelo y al lado del paciente.
Nunca compartí aquel tradicional estereotipo, del eterno sacrificio del médico, que lleva su profesión las 24 horas del día y está obligado a casarse con la medicina, anteponiendo su profesión a su vida.
Somos humanos, estamos vivos, e intentamos hacer nuestro trabajo lo mejor posible. Nos formamos y preparamos para ello, pero es nuestra humanidad la que nos hace grande y a la que nunca debemos renunciar.
Los profesionales que trabajamos en las urgencias y emergencias vivimos situaciones emocionales límites, cargadas de tensión y estrés. Y al terminar de brindar nuestra asistencia tenemos todo el derecho para derrumbarnos, llorar y expresar abiertamente lo que sentimos. Porque de no hacerlo, sería olvidar el sello humano de nuestra profesión, aquello que nos diferencia en la actualidad de una simple máquina, aquello que nos dice que somos algo más que un montón de piel y huesos, que somos alma y sentimiento.
Y no debemos olvidar que tratamos con personas, y como les digo en ocasiones a mis residentes, a veces no debemos buscar la mejor medicina entre las páginas de un libro, sino en nosotros mismos.
Porque en definitiva, los dioses no lloran, pero los médicos si.

Yo creo que el error esta en generalizar. Muchos nos hacemos fuertes para dar la noticia pero por dentro no podemos abstraernos de la situación dolorosa q representa. Debemos mostrar cierta entereza para situaciones en donde nuestra angustia no ayuda. No confundir eso con divinidad. Esto es lo q demuestra esa foto.
No todos los médicos son tan humanos como tú, por desgracia, por eso sorprende ver que un médico tenga sentimientos cuando generalmente suelen ser personas duras y frías. Te felicito por la humanidad que siempre nos regalas en tus escritos.
Soy enfermera y no me gusta generalizar, pero de verdad que abunda más lo divino que lo humano…yo, como el impacto social causado por la foto, cuando conozco alguno humano me entran ganas de llorar…
Siempre pienso que es algo que tienen que enseñar en la facultad porque sino no hay explicación…es para mirárselo!….Sorry, no todos sois así…Y LO SE!

Da pena de pensar que la gente no valore lo que os llevais entre manos y que piensen que como lo haceis todos los dias se os ha hecho un capazon como el de las tortugas.
Todos mañana podemos estar al otro lado y quizás dios no lo quiera hoy .Con humildad se llega antes y es menos gravoso tú camino, en tú profesión y fuera de ella.
Q suerte teneis las enfermeras pues de ser tan humanas y estar todo el dia sonriendo. Mi hospital debe ser la excepcion. Cuando se te oye hablar de vocacion economica me parto de la risa. Tu comentario esta cargado de prejuicios.

Todos los médicos son humanos, si no fuera así no estarían en este planeta… 🙂 a mi modo de ver este articulo expresa lo que muchos médicos sienten, pero cada persona tiene formas de expresar sus emociones de manera diferente; los que trabajan en esta área no tienen argumentación suficiente para definir la personalidad de alguien .. solo los que los conocen dentro y fuera del sitio de trabajo pueden decir cuanto duele y cuanto sufren por sus pacientes día a día. Muchas veces se debe tener una coraza para no enloquecer con tanto sufrimiento si no se estarían en psiquiatría a diario; muchas personas se sorprenden con esta clase de publicaciones pero algunos lo vemos diariamente hace parte de nuestro existir. verdaderamente creo que esto refleja el común denominador y no necesariamente se debe hacer en publico para que otros compañeros, enfermeras auxiliares y demás lo noten y lo reconozcan. se puede hacer en secreto con tranquilidad y confianza.. por que si yo fuera paciente y viera llorando cada vez que termina sin éxito la atención de un caso pensaría dos veces el ser atendido por el. las personas son expertas en criticar y no se tienen contentas con nada. si lloran mucho y son muy sensibles son malos no tiene buenos conocimientos no son seguros.. pero si por el contrario son seguros no muestran su emociones son altivos petulantes ect.. al fin cada uno tiene diversidad de pensamiento y es muy bueno reconocer el sentido humano que existe pero que se enmascara con el deber hacer……
Pues yo a Lalo le pondría un enema, eso si «con el me gusta» y la mejor de mis sonrisas…
Pues que pena dejarlo estando en cuarto. Te voy a contar un secreto: no es el título universitario el que forja la personalidad, sino la educación que recibes. El título es un plus, pero no lo es todo. Si hubieses terminado seguirías siendo tan chupiguay como presumes que eres. Yo sin embargo no abandoné y creo que hasta soy algo humano, aunque leyendo comentarios por parte de la enfermería como el tuyo estoy dudando. Mira, si los médicos con los que tienes que tratar son unos impresentables cambia de compañeros, pero no generales. A mi me ha tocado lidiar con enfermeras muy petardas que no se ocupaban de la enfermedad del paciente, y mucho menos de escucharlos. Pero no se me ocurre deducir de etilo que todo el personal de enfermería es igual, y no doy palmas ni albricias cuando me encuentro una enfermera normal. Asumo que en todas las profesiones hay buenos y malos profesionales y punto

, sin descanso , sin tregua , con sueldos de miseria, y se es responsable , con los seres humanos que estan alli por alguna necesidad, adoptas la postura que te da fortaleza sin dejar de sentir pero sin abrumarte para no perder el control. Lean los mejores manuales de Psiquiatria y veran que por la salud mental del trabajador de la salud y evitar el bornout, recomiendan evitar la transferencia con el paciente y no quiere decir que no te afecte.
Cuánta buena enfermera escribiendo en este blog… que maravilla!!! Eso si, harás todo eso siempre que no te pille con el café, el yogur, el zumo, la cena nada más empezar el turno, las palomitas de microondas… Y si, dedicate a poner enemas que esa es tu function (cuando te hayas acabado el yogur)

Hola, soy médica de Argentina, en un hospitalito de un lugar que seguro nadie conoce, que es el Hospital Gandulfo de Lomas de Zamora. Permitanme contar mi experiencia. Soy Jefe de Residentes, ya tengo 5 años viendo morir gente. En primer año no puedo contar las veces que lloré por un paciente, las veces que me fui triste a mi casa, las veces que me angustié. Cuando fueron pasando los meses, los años, me di cuenta de que no se puede trabajar así, entonces aprendí que algunas veces las cosas son asi, la gente muere, y a pesar de lo que uno haga… por eso aprendí que en vez de ponerme a llorar, o a sufrir, debía mostrarme fuerte y reconfortar a ese familiar que perdió a alguien. O simplemente me acostumbre. Una vez hasta me puse a llorar con el hijo de mi paciente favorito, pero ahora no me pasa. No es frialdad, es que no se puede trabajar así, porque se muere gente todos los días (yo hago clínica, y casi todos los días fallece gente). Yo me llevo bien con las enfermeras, y si es verdad que están más con los pacientes, pero mientras las enfermeras tienen que medicarlos o higienizarlos, nosotros debemos revisar, interrogar, diagnosticar, interpretar e indicar lo que las enfermeras deben hacer, y muchas veces no podemos tomarnos el tiempo de reconfortar. Si me puede pasar que me enoje cuando se muere alguien, me puedo angustiar y hasta llorar, pero la verdad que no voy a salir al pasillo del hospital y mostrar como lloro… porque no es mi función. Pero creanme que pasa. Y pasa que esta de moda pegarle a los médicos, la sociedad tiene eso de amor odio contra nosotros, se piensan que somos de metal. Y no es así, solo que no estamos por todos lados diciendo como nos sentimos. La verdad que la foto no muestra nada de otro mundo, pero cualquier motivo es bueno para criticar, no tienen ni idea lo que es lidiar todos los dias de tu vida con la muerte y el sufrimiento ajeno, o lo que significa decirle a alguien que tu ser amado murió…
Poppi, entiendo tus palabras. y obviamente antes que médicos son personas que no son inmunes al dolor ajeno. Seguramente las condiciones en los hospitales públicos hacen aún más dificil la tarea. Pero cuando él médico se pone una coraza (ya sea para no mostrar flojera o porque sería imposible para él a nivel anímico) inevitablemente deja de ver al paciente de manera integral, y comienza a tratar su enfermedad según el protocolo. Los pacientes confiamos más y nos curamos más facilmente, cuando el médico se muestra humano, cercano, empatico. En la mayoría de los casos no buscamos eminencias, solo buscamos médicos que nos contengan ademas de recetarnos tratamientos y/o remedios. Soy abogada y hace muchos años con mi médico hicimos un pacto. El me pidió que yo nunca hiciera un juicio por mala praxis y yo le pedi, que él jamas actuara por protocolo. Patch Adams creo que entendia la medicina de esa manera, Edward Bach tambien (independientemente de las flores de Bach). Imagino que la presión será mucha y también la angustia que genera la muerte de un paciente, pero a veces tratar al paciente y no a la enfermedad, genera beneficios que los pacientes apreciamos sobremanera. Y por supuesto no se puede generalizar, pero no es tan sencillo encontrar médicos con esta mirada. Saludos!

Soy estudiante de sexto, y hasta ahora todo lo veo ‘desde fuera’. Ojalá todos los médicos hicieran reflexiones como éstas. Saber que tratamos con personas, que cada persona, pese a que su problema sea ‘el menor de los problemas’ acude a ti con miedo, incertidumbre y con esperanza en ti, y su problema es ‘su problema’. No cuesta nada tratar a las personas como personas, como te gustaría que te trataran a ti. Las cosas actualmente en los hospitales públicos ponen complicado muchas situaciones…pero no se puede olvidar que tratas con personas, y que tú eres una persona más.
Hay que ser humilde en la vida. Como estudiante he vivido situaciones emocionantes en las que deseas ser como ese médico de prácticas cuando tú estés en su lugar; en otras, en cambio, el médico en cuestión ni te mira, dándote la espalda y sintiéndote como un mueble, o peor aún.
Yo confío en que haya muchísimos médicos como tú, que sientan, que empaticen, que enseñen, que transmitan… Que traten a las personas como les gustaría que fuesen tratados en una situación similar.

Leo tu comentario y no puedo evitar contestarte. Tú conocerás a un número de médicos, mayor o menor, pero no a todos. Al igual que yo trabajo con varias enfermeras, no con todas. Alardear de saber escuchar es feo. Parecería que no te sientes suficientemente satisfecha con lo que haces. Yo nunca alardearía de lo bien que según yo escucho o trato a mis pacientes. Verás, soy Hematóloga, te podrás hacer una idea del tipo de paciente con el que trato cada día. Los oncológicos. Te aseguro que intento hacerlo lo mejor que puedo. En el lado humano no tengo que esforzarme, pues de forma natural, sin pensarlo, intento estar a la altura. Te ruego no generalices de esta manera, tanto para echar por tierra el trabajo de los médicos ni para subir a las nubes el vuestro. Te ruego que no niegues las veces que he llorado por mis pacientes, los que recuperaron su vida y los que no pudieron salir adelante. Saludos

Cada tanto voy a ver a los médicos y enfermeros/ras, tanto del Hospital Gandulfo Lomas de Zamora, como del Hospital Muñiz, Argentina y ellos se alegran tanto de verme bien, como yo de verlos bien a ellos.
Ellos son mis amigo/a a un que no lo saben, el que te ayuda es un Amigo.
Que triste es que a raíz de uunas palabras tan bien dichas sobre nuestras profesiones salga el debate de siempre de los médicos son unos elitistas y las enfermeras unas vagas frustradas. Soy enfermera desde hace 11 años, no son muchos, como muchas otras acabé en enfermería porque no me llegó para medicina pero me gustó tanto que en vez de frustraEme intente formarme mucho en mi profesión.
Estoy segura que hay médicos prepotentes y enfermeras ogros pero yo también he conocido muchos médicos entregados a sus pacientes, educados y atentos así como conozco muchas enfermeras currantas, formadas y agradables.
Muchas veces somos nosotros mismos los que hacemos perdurar estos prejuicios no fijándonos en cómo están cambiando y no cultivando una relación normal entre nosotros.
Dependemos mucho unos de otros, si asumimos eso entenderemos que esto es un equipo y el protagonista no es ni la enfermera ni la auxiliar ni el médico.

Que DECEPCION! NUNCA FALTA el que te diga que tu trabajo es poner enemas o algo asi! . El medico y el enfermero deberian trabajar a la par. Al que comento lo del cafe y el zumo, yo entro a las 07 y me retiro a las 14 hs a veces tomo mi desayuno a las 12 ,otras voy a comer a la 13 sin haber tomado nada o como apurada para irme. Nuestros trabajos tienen enfoques distintos ¡Basta de rivalidad! Cada uno estudio lo que le gusto y punto.
Hay de todo como en cualquier profesión, pero la práctica de la medicina no se puede concebir sin un equipo, todos trabajamos juntos por la salud de nuestros pacientes. ?

En mi larga vida, he conocido muchos médicos de esos que tienen sentimientos y curan nuestras heridas materiales y espirituales, pero no siempre es así, también están los otros, los que hacen de la medicina un comercio, a veces porque no los dejan llorar.Blanca, dedicado a un médico de verdad .de la familia.
Yo soy estudiante de medicina y nunca he escrito en un blog, pero este tema me parece importantísimo y lo busqué deliberadamente en Google por algo que dije hoy en clase.
Hoy hablamos sobre si el médico debía involucrarse hasta el punto de que la muerte de los pacientes constituyera una continua tristeza para él. Creo que esto, lo de involucrarse, es inevitable en la mayoría de los casos, sin embargo esto no es fuente de tristeza, sino al contrario. Además ello no otorga superioridad moral al médico ni lo hace más humano. Humano es desde un principio, porque los demás animales no estudian medicina, y creo que, en general, aunque descarriados hay en todos lados y en todas las profesiones, es noble también.
Considero que es prioritario, primero, que el médico sepa medicina y, segundo, que sea compasivo. Algunos médicos son bien compasivos y abrazadores pero ignorantes y vagos, no estudian, y por tanto son unos inservibles peligrosos, y otros son muy estudiosos pero son estúpidos con los pacientes, por tanto se vuelven inservibles también. Lo difícil del asunto es que hay que hacer las dos cosas. Sin embargo esto no es por lo que escribo. Hay algo que me quedó dando vueltas en la cabeza de cuanto dije hoy:
Dije que era nefasto que los médicos lloraran delante del público de una sala de hospitalización. Eso siempre me ha parecido terrible. No se si es defecto mío, o un prejuicio feo, pero cuando veo a un estudiante de medicina llorar públicamente pienso que es un impúdico que quiere parecer sensible. Y creo que por gente como yo es que a los médicos los pintan como recios y fríos. He llorado, y apenas tengo dos semestre en Clínica, por la muerte de varios de mis pacientes (los que yo como estudiante atendía), pero lloraba en la absoluta soledad de mi cuarto. Una de mis pacientes era una enferma de un cáncer terminal horrible, metástasis por todos lados y hepatitis C, con unas hijas maravillosas y un esposo conmovedor, que estaba siempre al lado suyo, besándola, consolándola. Ella me recordaba a mi madre, que estaba recién diagnosticada con un cáncer, y lloré varias veces cuando, después de leer en la noche, me acostaba a dormir en mi cama.
También se encuentra uno con médicos que lloran delante de sus pacientes y quizá esto sea más frecuente de lo que pienso. Una amiga me contó de uno que lloró con su abuelo al darle la noticia de que tenía un cáncer. Ambos, abuelo de mi amiga y médico, lloraron desconsolados abrazándose. Esto no me parece que haya sido hipócrita ni impúdico, sino auténtico. Sin embargo mi amiga dijo que esa conducta del médico le parecía lamentable y poco profesional, puesto que más que consolarlo, al llorar, le terminaba de pintar el panorama de una muerte inminente.
Al parecer muchos piden maquiavelismo en la medicina cuando dicen que no basta con ser buenos sino que hay que parecerlo, siempre. Sin embargo yo creo que debemos seguir siendo sobre todo dignos. Aguantar el llanto en público, aunque nos digan fríos, puede ser muchas veces la diferencia entre uno que se ve como un manojo de nervios e inseguro y otro que mantiene calma en la desesperación para no poner más nervioso a un personal nervioso y a una familia nerviosa. Para llorar tenemos siempre la soledad de la almohada. El día que me tenga que convertir en un político venezolano, esto es, un experto en besar a niños en público o en una mis que llora cuando le entregan una estúpida corona, para poder ser un buen médico, probablemente tenga que dejar de serlo definitivamente… Es mentira, creo que no lo dejaría de ser nunca.
Creo que debemos seguir siendo cada médico tanto como nos lo diga nuestro corazón, aunque muchos nos llamen al hacerlo cosas tan abyectas como que somos máquinas o dioses.
Mi país vive una época en la cual el médico se convirtió en un paria. 13mil han emigrado porque aquí los tienen trabajando con sueldos de miseria mientras los que gobiernan los llaman insensibles y comerciantes. Es insólito que echen como a perros a un material humano tan caro como útil. Han negado la filantropía de los médicos de mi país. Esto es una práctica extendida también en otras partes, aunque no a este extremo.
En todo caso, pienso que generalizar es una práctica dañina cuando lo que se generaliza es una mentira.
Gracias por tu aportación Manuel. Personalmente no creo que sea recomendable llorar delante de los pacientes, porque no creo que sea lo que necesiten. Aunque siempre debemos tratarlos de un modo correcto y no creo que sea un pecado empatizarse. No obstante, hay situaciones, tragedias y accidentes que te pueden impresionar y después de prestar profesionalmente tu asistencia, te puedes derrumbar y descargar la ira, rabia o frustración al perder un paciente. Que creo que es lo que representa esa foto. Somos seres humanos, no somos ni debemos ser frías máquinas, y generalmente descargamos lo vivido en nuestra intimidad o al compartirlo con un colega.
Me alegra que los estudiantes de medicina tengáis estas inquietudes, aseguran buenas generaciones de profesionales.

Cómo siempre estos temas acaban en rivalizar a los trabajadores de la salud, en este país claro, así nos va…hay médic@s inhumanos y enfermer@s inhumanos también oigan no nos equivoquemos, que aquí hay de todo, pero no es lo normal, se pongan como se pongan, el problema es el sistema, que acaba quemando a un@ el cómo está organizado el sistema sanitario. ¿ en qué país europeo se trabaja 24h seguidas? ¿ los ratios enfermer@/paciente? los conoces la población que no se dedica a esto? es que hablar es muy fácil pero señores, culpen a los que dirigen el país que muchos de ustedes votaron en su día, lo que SÍ ES INHUMANO TRABAJAR ASÍ que no se puede.

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said «You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.» She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
