Nuestra joven compañera, comenzó a realizar las preguntas de rigor, y el paciente no destacó antecedente de relevancia alguno. De repente, las piernas se pusieron rígidas, las manos también, temblores, palabras incomprensibles, la residente se acercó, lo tocó, lo miró extrañada. Y luego me buscó con su mirada, pero yo seguía manteniendo mi particular distancia. Y es que aquellos movimientos no reflejaban los patrones de alguna enfermedad conocida.
El paciente nos regaló una pausa, y mi colega aprovechó para continuar con la exploración neurológica, pero en seguida tuvo que detenerse porque nuevamente comenzó la marabunta .
Yo alejado de la escena, puse mis ojos sobre la anciana, y ambos cruzamos la mirada. Entonces me acerqué a ella y en voz baja le susurré al oído «usted en verdad sabe lo que le pasa». Unos segundos de silencio, y me lanzó una sonrisa a modo de complicidad. Desvelando rápidamente su original secreto, «a mi marido le poseen los espíritus, pero yo sé como solucionarlo».
La miré, y no pude evitar susurrarle un «demuéstremelo» al oído, y los dos nos acercamos donde residente y paciente luchaban por encontrar un diagnóstico. Allí, la anciana le colocó sobre el pecho una resplandeciente y dorada cruz de Caravaca, y aquellos extravagantes movimientos y rigideces comenzaron a ceder.
Todos nos miramos, suspiramos y objetivamente pusimos un diagnóstico a lo acontecido. Un juicio clínico que soprendentemente coincidió con los informes del psiquiatra, que comenzaron a salir del cajón de la mesilla, para así completar de relevantes antecedentes la antes descafeinada historia clínica.
Yo, como aficionado a Iker Jiménez y su cuarto milenio, le quité la cruz del pecho. Y al empezar de nuevo los temblores, se la puse suavemente, y cual fue mi sorpresa, que la luz de la lámpara que iluminaba aquella amarillenta habitación desde el techo, comenzó a encenderse y apagarse. Coincidencias del destino, parece que en ese preciso instante se aflojó un par de bombillas.
Rápidamente, la residente firmó el informe, y todos pusimos nuevamente rumbo a nuestra añorada ambulancia. El paciente estaba fuera de peligro, quedó tranquilo con su cruz y nosotros nos conformamos con los informes que argumentaban aquellos movimientos.
Recorrimos nuevamente el estrecho pasillo, y dimos por finalizado este diferente aviso, la historia del paciente poseído.
Como siempre, un consejo para aquellos que empiezan en las urgencias, a veces nos empeñamos en buscar el diagnóstico dentro del paciente, cuando la solución puede estar fuera.
Observa, escucha, y di palabras que abran puertas, a veces la familia alberga esa ansiada respuesta.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said «You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.» She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright violation?
